Alright, so earlier this year, Microsoft decided to up the prices of its Xbox Series S consoles. The 512GB version went from $300 to $380, and now they’ve gone ahead and added another $20 to make it a cool $400 as of October 3. Not stopping there, Microsoft also announced price increases for the Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, because why not throw more cash into the mix, right? But hold up, seems like Amazon missed the memo because you can snag the 512GB Xbox Series S for just $329 right now. Score!
The Xbox Series S is an all-digital gaming console that comes with one controller and 512GB of internal storage. If you’re feeling fancy, there’s a 1TB version available, but it’s not on sale at the moment. Keep in mind, this console is disc-free, so you’ll need to download all your games onto the console or an external SSD, which you can buy separately. Some games can also be streamed from the cloud with the proper Game Pass subscription. Not too shabby, right?
Now, this console may not support 4K gaming, but it still offers a resolution higher than standard HD, coming in at 1440p. You can enjoy TV shows and movies in full 4K through apps like Netflix, HBO Max, and Disney Plus. Plus, with HDR support, you’ll get those dark spots staying dark and vibrant colors popping. Take a game like Hollow Knight: Silksong, for example. Playing it in HDR on a proper screen really brings out the game’s beauty, especially with all those dark areas and colorful details. And hey, speaking of Game Pass, you can even play Hollow Knight: Silksong for free with a subscription. But hey, remember that price increase I mentioned earlier? Yeah, the top tier of Game Pass now costs $30 a month, up from $20. Ouch. But fear not, the Essential tier is still a steal at $10 a month, offering great games like Slay the Spire, Psychonauts 2, Tunic, Control, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Sure, you may not get those day one first party launches, but there’s a goldmine of awesome titles waiting for you. So yeah, not too shabby, Microsoft. Keep those price hikes coming!
