Ubisoft is set to release a new game called Star Wars Outlaws in August this year. The game is a departure from the typical Star Wars storyline as it focuses on the life of a smuggler and scoundrel named Kay Vess. Unlike other Star Wars games, Star Wars Outlaws does not involve Jedi or The Force, but instead, it delves into the darker side of the Star Wars universe.
The game is set in the period between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi, during the peak of the Empire’s rule. Kay Vess finds herself constantly on the run from the Empire due to her illegal activities. The game’s narrative director, Navid Khavari, mentioned that they wanted to explore the impact of the intergalactic conflicts from the perspective of someone like Kay, who is not involved with the Empire, Jedi, Rebellion, or Sith.
In terms of gameplay, Star Wars Outlaws follows the open-world structure characteristic of Ubisoft games. Players can expect elements of stealth action, parkour, and cover shooter mechanics similar to the Assassin’s Creed series. The game also features hand-to-hand combat, vehicle combat, and the ability to manipulate the environment using a robotic companion named Nix.
One interesting aspect of the game is the reputation and wanted system, reminiscent of games like Grand Theft Auto. Depending on your actions, you may find yourself on the wrong side of the law, affecting your interactions with various factions in the game. Additionally, players can travel through space in Kay’s Trailblazer starship, engaging in space combat against the Empire’s forces.
Star Wars Outlaws also includes dialogue choices that allow players to shape Kay’s personality and decisions throughout the game. While these choices do not result in branching storylines, they provide a way for players to immerse themselves in the character’s journey.
The game will feature multiple planets from various eras of the Star Wars series, offering a diverse and rich gaming experience. Post-launch content, including story packs and additional cosmetics, will be available for purchase separately or as part of the season pass.
Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled for release on August 30, 2024, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Fans of the Star Wars universe and open-world games can look forward to exploring the galaxy in a whole new light with Star Wars Outlaws.
