Sega and Games Workshop just dropped the bombshell announcement that the OG Space Marine game, which originally hit the gaming scene over a decade ago on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, is getting a swanky remaster treatment! And get this, folks, you won’t have to twiddle your thumbs for too long because the remastered version is set to launch on June 10 on Xbox Series X/S and PC. But hold up, there seems to be a missing piece in this puzzle.
The original Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, which made its debut in 2011 and was a hit among gamers, is finally getting the long-awaited remaster treatment in 2024. Fast forward to today, and we have already seen a sequel that knocked it out of the park, paving the way for the announcement of Space Marine 3. Pretty cool, right? Whether you’re looking to revisit the classic or dive in for the first time before the third installment hits the shelves, there’s a new and improved way to experience this cult-favorite sci-fi shooter. Well, unless you happen to be a PS5 owner, that is.
On May 22, during the Warhammer Skulls event, Sega made the big reveal that they are giving the OG Space Marine a facelift. The remaster is in the capable hands of SneakyBox and promises a 4K resolution option, revamped controls, a fresh UI design, enhanced character models, and reimagined audio. Can’t wait to hear those Orks shouting “Space Marine!” in crystal-clear sound quality. Producer Vaidas Mikelskas from SneakyBox mentioned to IGN, “[This] isn’t just a technical upgrade — it’s a thoughtful restoration. We aimed to preserve the spirit of the original while giving it a modern twist for today’s players.”
It’s a bit of a head-scratcher that this surprise remaster is skipping the PlayStation 5, at least based on the first trailer of the game. Instead, it’s set to drop on Game Pass right from day one. Not really sure why this matters, but it seems like for now, it’s an Xbox console exclusive. In a world where Forza and Gears of War are making appearances on PlayStation, this move seems a tad bit silly. Warhammer 40k: Space Marine Master Crafted Edition is set to hit the shelves on June 10 on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass.
