PlayStation be turnin’ 30 this year, like wow, that’s a lotta years. So, what’s a better way to chill and reminisce ’bout the past than flippin’ through a rad coffee-table book that tracks the last three decades of PlayStation hardware? Ya gotta wait ’til spring of next year to cop it, and it’s gonna cost ya a pretty penny, but if ya dig the history of product and hardware development and appreciate a dope photography book, Sony and publisher Read-Only Memory got somethin’ special for ya. In a blog post celebratin’ the 30-year mark, Sony dropped some pics of its sick-lookin’ photography book PlayStation: The First 30 Years. It comes in two hardcover editions at 400 pages each, and it documents various prototype concepts of gamepads, consoles, logo design sketches, and more. The standard edition gonna run ya $125, but there’s also gonna be a limited run of 1994 deluxe-edition copies (the year the first PlayStation shipped in Japan) that gonna be encased in a foil-stamped box and gonna include other goodies. Even if ya think ya seen every possible prototype or concept for the PlayStation brand, there might still be some surprises in these pages for ya. I mean, check this thing out!

Not really sure why this matters, but now no one can tell me that the boomerang controller concept from the PS3 was the most uncomfortable-lookin’ idea from Sony. And talkin’ ’bout that thing, I sure hope there are more photos of it in these pages.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like this book gonna be a must-have for any die-hard PlayStation fan out there. Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy and dive into all the juicy details of the history behind one of the most iconic gaming consoles of all time. Cheers to 30 years of PlayStation greatness, and here’s to many more to come!
