Lucasfilm Taps George Nolfi for New Jedi Order Script

Lucasfilm has once again turned to the drawing board, enlisting screenwriter George Nolfi to pen the script for the highly-anticipated Star Wars sequel, New Jedi Order. The sci-fi flick, still in the works, aims to bring back fan-favorite Daisy Ridley as Rey, but the elusive screenplay remains a key hurdle.

Nolfi, renowned for his contributions to Ocean’s 12 and The Bourne Ultimatum, joins the fray following a string of screenplay shake-ups. Originally announced in 2023 alongside two other Star Wars projects, New Jedi Order has seen its fair share of creative turnover. Despite the setbacks, the studio’s latest move indicates a steadfast commitment to bringing Rey’s story to life.

Set approximately 15 years post-The Rise of Skywalker, the film is poised to explore Rey’s journey as she mentors a new generation of Jedi. The narrative, once entrusted to writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, eventually found its way into the capable hands of Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, before Nolfi assumed the mantle in October 2024.

While directorial duties still rest with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the film’s release date has hit a snag, with Disney pushing back the anticipated December 2026 premiere. In the interim, fans can look forward to The Mandalorian and Grogu gracing screens in May 2026, with rumors swirling around Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars project featuring Ryan Gosling.

As the galaxy eagerly awaits New Jedi Order’s arrival, the question looms: will Nolfi deliver a script that meets Lucasfilm’s standards? With the specter of additional rewrites looming, one can’t help but wonder how long Obaid-Chinoy and Ridley will bide their time before the saga unfolds on the silver screen.
