Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell movie has been officially canceled, according to one of the producers, Basil Iwanyk. In an interview with The Direct, Iwanyk expressed his disappointment, calling the project “one of the ones that got away”. He mentioned that despite numerous attempts, the team couldn’t get the script and budget right for the movie to move forward.
The movie was initially announced over a decade ago, with Tom Hardy slated to star and Doug Liman set to direct. The combination seemed promising for an action-packed adaptation. However, with the lack of updates in recent years, the cancellation doesn’t come as a shock to fans.
While the live-action movie may no longer be happening, fans of the franchise can still look forward to Netflix’s animated series, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. The teaser for the series was released last month, offering a glimpse of Liev Schreiber as Sam Fisher.
It’s always disappointing when a highly anticipated project doesn’t come to fruition, but with the animated series on the horizon, there’s still something to look forward to for Splinter Cell fans. What are your thoughts on the cancellation of the movie? Share your opinions in the comments below.
