Sophie Turner, known for her role as the Queen of the North in Game of Thrones, is gearing up to take on a new role as the iconic British archeologist Lara Croft in Amazon’s Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider TV series. Turner has been linked to the role since October when reports surfaced that she, along with Lucy Boynton, had auditioned for the part.

If Turner officially lands the role, she will be teaming up with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is set to executive produce and write for the series. This will be Turner’s fourth TV role post-Game of Thrones, following appearances in shows like Survive on Quibi, HBO’s The Staircase, and the British crime drama Joan.

The series was greenlit by Amazon following the success of another video game adaptation, Fallout. According to Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, the Tomb Raider series will pay homage to the iconic character of Lara Croft. Waller-Bridge promises that the show will be an adventure, complete with all the challenges and enemies that Croft encounters while raiding tombs.

While there is no official start date for filming or release, it is unlikely that the series will premiere in 2025 given the delays in confirming the lead actress. Amazon is planning to create a Tomb Raider universe by connecting the TV series with an upcoming film and video game.

If Turner can handle ruling a kingdom in Game of Thrones, navigating through tombs and battling enemies as Lara Croft should be a walk in the park for her. Fans of the Tomb Raider franchise can look forward to seeing Turner bring a new dimension to the beloved character on the small screen.
