Real Zaragoza have finally given up on signing goalkeeper Gaizka Campos, with whom they had announced an agreement that was going to be signed this Thursday, after learning that the player had published a tweet in 2013 in which he said he was “disgusted” by the Saragossa.

The goalkeeper made a publication on May 19, 2013 at 8:40 p.m. in which he was pleased with a goal against the team against Athletic Bilbao.

“The disgust that I have for Zaragoza and how this gooool has raised them for me”, said Gaizka Campos after a goal from Ibai Gómez in added time of the match that faced the maño team with Athletic in La Romareda and that meant the triumph of the Basque team 1-2 on matchday 36 of the League.

After learning of this publication, just one hour after the agreement was announced, the Maño club issued a statement to inform them that they were taking a period of reflection that has culminated in giving up signing the goalkeeper.

“After deep reflection this afternoon, Real Zaragoza has made the difficult decision not to sign Gaizka Campos. This resolution has not been easy, but one of the fundamental pillars of this institution is respect for our history and our fans. We have the responsibility to be faithful to that maxim”, highlighted the Zaragoza team.

In the statement, the club explains that it understands that the goalkeeper’s publication on social networks in 2013 was an adolescent mistake that does not reflect the person and professional that he is, but that he also understands that the pressure that a circumstance like this entails It would make his development as a footballer within the club very difficult.

“Despite this unfortunate situation, from Real Zaragoza we want to wish Gaizka the best in his future professional challenges”, concludes the ‘blanquillo’ club.
