With hotel prices through the roof, with flights becoming more and more expensive and with almost all the yachts in Ibiza rented by soccer players, “normality” is the method that Villarreal soccer player Manu Trigueros has made fashionable to enjoy your vacations. No reservations at 350 euros a kilo of lobster, no excessive hair removal or images with luxury cars. Trigueros is the ‘anti-soccer player’, at least during his break.
The midfielder, who receives a millionaire salary (like all top-level footballers), and who could therefore do all these things, has become (more) famous this summer for sharing on his social networks the most customary scenes imaginable, those that every neighbor’s son could sign on his summer break. In the last image he is seen on a beach, with an umbrella (like a normal tourist) and with his daughter. The image has cost him the occasional joke on the part of his colleagues. Marc Bartra, central Betis, did not miss the opportunity to send a message to Trigueros, who ensures that he takes it “with humor” because “in the end they are things that are funny”.
Trigueros, 30, explains that the holidays have helped him to be with those closest to him and enjoy being close to home. However, he clarifies that he also took the opportunity to go to Ibiza “with some friends” managing to go unnoticed. Not like Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and other athletes, he is the focus of attention on the island’s beaches. “This summer I have done everything but, even so, I don’t like uploading photos on a yacht,” he says in a conversation with EL MUNDO.
Although the Villarreal player walked around Ibiza during his vacations, the nostalgia aroused by living far from home for “more than 15 years” made Talavera de la Reina his first destination. There, at his mother’s house, he started it all. On Instagram, a few weeks ago, Trigueros published an image enjoying a stew that his mother made for him. In a white tank top, at more than 35 degrees, and with a bottle of wine.
“Around the footballer there is a lot of talk. There are lawyers of different types, there are architects of different types, there are engineers of different types. The fan knows that the footballer likes to enjoy himself. I am an enjoyer type”, he comments.
Although in theory the vacations of an elite soccer player are to give the body a break, Trigueros affirmed that whenever he can, without a marked physical routine, he uses a space of his day to get together to “play paddle tennis or practice golf” . He even meets a friend who is a trainer to keep fit.
Without tattoos, without controversy and without expensive vacations, Trigueros aroused the curiosity of hundreds of Spanish fans, who applaud the player’s behavior and who, in addition, have made him a trend in recent hours with publications comparing “moderation” of the midfielder with the “excessive” expenses of players who hardly step on the affiliates of the big teams.
