King Juan Carlos spends his last hours in Spain before taking a plane to Abu Dhabi, his official residence since March 5. The father of Felipe VI has stayed four days in our country in a historic return 21 months after his departure. Juan Carlos I has finished his trip with a visit to the Palacio de la Zarzuela, which was his home for half a century.

At 10 in the morning, the King Father crossed the door of the Zarzuela venue in an off-road vehicle. Don Juan Carlos has lowered the window upon his arrival to greet the journalists and the fifty spontaneous people who have come to Somontes carrying Spanish flags to applaud the King. Just as he moved around him these days, Don Juan Carlos intended to “normalize everything” with this trip. He also expected “lots of hugs” from his relatives.

What is happening inside the palace, for the moment has not transpired as it is a private act of the Family. It is known that the King has had a long meeting with his son and that in Zarzuela he has also met again with Doña Sofía, who has not traveled to Abu Dhabi in these two years.

Casa Real has conceived this meeting as a low-profile and private family reunion. Therefore, Zarzuela did not contemplate sending photographs or giving more information about the guests at the lunch that followed the family meeting at the moment.

This morning, the Infanta Elena has gone to her office at the Mapfre Foundation. At noon she has left her job, although she has not entered Zarzuela through the official door. Also at lunchtime, the Infanta Margarita left her residence in the center of Madrid accompanied by her husband, Carlos Zurita. Both have gone to La Zarzuela.

Although the initial plan was for Don Juan Carlos to be in Madrid until four in the afternoon, at that time he remained in Zarzuela. These days in Sanxenxo the father of Felipe VI had lamented with those around him the short time that he was going to stay in Madrid. In fact, some of his friends traveled to Galicia just to see him.

Don Juan Carlos hopes to return to Spain in three weeks, when he will travel again to Sanxenxo to participate in the Sailing World Cup. His intention is that with the passage of time the visits become more frequent and longer.
