Tesla Chairman Elon Musk has said he has a “super bad feeling” about the economy and that the electric carmaker needs to cut its workforce by around 10%, according to an internal email seen by Reuters.

Tesla executives received an email on Thursday titled ‘Pause all hiring globally’, although the company has declined to comment on it for now.

Earlier this week Musk required his employees to return to the office to work in person, threatening those who did not with being fired.

“Everyone at Tesla is required to spend a minimum of 40 hours per week in the office,” Musk wrote in another email sent to employees Tuesday night. “If you don’t show up, we’ll assume you’ve quit,” he added.
