The Trails series by Nihon Falcom, which has been around for 20 years, is nearing completion according to the company president Toshihiro Kondo. In a recent interview with GameSpot, Kondo mentioned that the main story of the series is now 80-90% complete. While there may be another arc after the current one, Kondo made it clear that the series won’t continue for much longer and fans shouldn’t expect to see a 30th or 40th anniversary celebration.

Kondo also revealed that there are no specific plans for a direct successor to the Trails series at the moment. The focus is on finishing up the current storyline. However, the development team is working on several new IPs and projects, allowing younger team members to grow and explore new ideas.

The release of The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak on the Switch last month was followed by the announcement that its sequel will be localized for the Switch in early 2025. Players can also try out a demo of the game on the Switch eShop.

As the Trails series nears its completion, fans are left wondering about the future of Nihon Falcom’s game development. With new IPs in the works and younger team members eager to explore new ideas, the company is poised to continue delivering innovative and engaging experiences for players.
