Ilya Yashin, one of the few opposition leaders remaining in Russia, was arrested last night in Moscow accused of contempt of the police, according to his lawyer, Vadim Prorojov, reported today.
“I am not allowed to see him (…) Judging by everything, the court hearing will be held today, Tuesday,” the lawyer wrote on his Facebook page.
The opponent, who has publicly condemned the “special military operation” in Ukraine, was arrested while walking with a friend in a park in the Russian capital.
Contempt for police officers is punishable in Russia with fines and up to 15 days’ arrest. Yashin has previously been fined three times for “disparaging” the Russian Armed Forces.
