A Man Finishes Crazy Journey in Minecraft
So, like, there’s this dude who completed this totally absurd but like, heartwarming journey in Minecraft. It’s kind of a big deal, you know? Also, the Control game finally got Hideo Kojima’s voiceover on console, which is pretty cool. And oh, the Ghost of Yotei sales are looking pretty impressive. Welcome to the latest Morning Checkpoint, where we talk about gaming news and culture and stuff. My co-author is off on vacation somewhere, so you’re stuck with me for now. The good news is I’m super close to getting the Platinum in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. The bad news? Well, the Birds totally blew their chance at going 5-0 this weekend. I mean, I was just casually grinding the Deep Dungeon and only looked up to watch occasionally. But hey, at least I got Ramza to learn Zodiark. Small victories, right?
A record-breaking Minecraft hike has finally been completed
So, there’s this streamer named KurtJMac who did this crazy hike in Minecraft. It’s called the “Far Lands or Bust Marathon Subathon,” and it took over a decade to reach the glitched edge of the Minecraft map. Apparently, it’s a big deal in the gaming world. The Far Lands is this weird end of the game that looks like a wall of stone and dirt reaching up to the sky. Not an easy task for people playing in survival mode without cheats. KurtJMac’s virtual hike is now the longest Minecraft journey ever, which is pretty impressive. And get this, he’s raised over $525,000 for charity since he started streaming the trek back in 2011. Right now, they’re trying to raise $50,000 for UNRWA USA, which helps Palestinian refugees. You can check out KurtJMac’s reaction to finally reaching the end of his journey in the video below. It’s pretty epic.
Battlefield 6 promises a 120fps mode
So, EA sent out an email to registered players hyping up this new 120fps mode for Battlefield 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It’s all about that extra-responsive framerate, you know? Up to 120FPS or high-fidelity visuals, according to the email. Sounds pretty sweet if you ask me. I mean, who wouldn’t want a smoother gaming experience, right?
An Interplay cofounder and video game champion needs your help
This lady named Rebecca Heineman is a total boss. She won the national championship Space Invaders tournament back in 1980 and helped cofound Interplay, the company behind games like The Bard’s Tale and Fallout. Now, she’s fighting an aggressive form of cancer and needs help with medical treatment. It’s a tough battle, but she’s not giving up. She’s asking for support on her GoFundMe page because she wants to keep creating games and comics. Let’s help her beat this thing, yeah?
Ghost of Yotei dominates UK sales
So, Ghost of Yotei was number one in the UK last week for boxed copies sold. Sounds like Sony’s open-world samurai adventure is a hit across the pond. It even outsold the second week of EA Sports FC, which is a pretty big deal. It sold three times more than Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 on Switch, but it’s still 40 percent behind where Ghost of Tsushima was in 2020. Not really sure why this matters, but hey, it’s good to know, right?
The Control Ultimate Edition update is out on console
The new update for Control includes a mission with a voiceover by Hideo Kojima, which is pretty awesome. Players also get access to costumes that were pre-order bonuses and new performance settings for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It’s all about that uncapped framerates, VRR, 120Hz display, and HDR support. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
So, there you have it, folks. A mix of heartwarming Minecraft journeys, impressive game sales, and updates to keep you on the edge of your seat. Stay tuned for more gaming news and culture.
