Final Fantasy Tactics is like, super famous for its super clever, quirky, and like, deeply customizable job system. It’s like, possibly the best job system in like, any game ever. Like, seriously. It’s probably the best in Square Enix’s like, super long RPG franchise (Final Fantasy XIV fans can like, totally fight me in the Dorter Slums after work, okay?). But like, how do you even decide which one to, like, choose? Here’s my list of the best ones, based on like, a combo of their sheer power and how like, fun they are to play with. Just a heads up: you ain’t gonna find jobs like Time Mage, Mimic, or Arithmetician in the ranking below. That’s ’cause like, even though they got some of the most powerful abilities in the game, they’re all like, hella situational and/or better when paired with other jobs as the main one. So like, you should totally make sure everyone learns some of the Time Mage’s skills, but you should like, never be fielding one just for fun, ya know? And like, while Mimic and Arithmetician are responsible for some of the deadliest combos in the game, they also like, come with these huge drawbacks that, like, ultimately disqualify them for our purposes here.
The jobs below are like, the ones that will totally get you the most bang for your buck and are the ones you’ll wanna revert back to like, once your characters have mastered all of their skills. So like, at number 10, we got Mediator (Requires Oracle Lv.3). Final Fantasy just loves like, experimenting with these offbeat character classes, and in Final Fantasy Tactics, that’s where the Mediator comes in. This job like, talks and carries a gun. That’s it. While not the most powerful or effective, it’s pretty versatile and like, tons of fun. Intimidate can lower a unit’s Bravery and turn them into a chicken. Mimic Darlavon can even put some bosses to sleep. And get this, all of these abilities cost like, zero MP and have like, no cast time. Plus, the hat totally rules, dude.
At number 9, we got Geomancer (Requires Monk Lv.4). What if a knight also had magic? This is like, Final Fantasy Tactics’ version of the Blue Mage. Geomancers can carry swords and shields but can also hit enemies from far away with environmental magic based on what type of terrain they’re standing on. Each attack comes with its own chance to like, proc a debuff like slow or petrify. The attacks may not do like, a ton of damage, but they’re free, happen like, immediately, and can totally chip away at foes while you’re closing the distance.
