The PS5 Pro is set to be released in just a few weeks, and it promises enhancements for over 50 games right from the start. One of these games is The Last Of Us Part I, which was featured in the initial tech demo for the new hardware. The game was shown to run more smoothly at higher fidelities compared to its current version on the regular PS5. Now, developers of popular games are starting to unveil the different modes that will be available to players who choose to invest in Sony’s latest console.
The enhancements for The Last of Us Part I on the PS5 Pro were detailed in a recent 2.0 patch notes list on the studio’s website. The game’s existing Performance and Fidelity modes will still be options, but they will run even better on the PS5 Pro due to its more powerful specs. In addition to these modes, a new “Pro” mode will be introduced in the settings. This mode will run the game at a native 1440p resolution upscaled to 4K using PSSR, while maintaining a target framerate of 60fps. This aligns with architect Mark Cerny’s vision for the PS5 Pro, where players can enjoy both visual quality and smooth framerates without compromise.
Different developers are taking varied approaches to implementing PS5 Pro modes in their games. For example, Remedy Entertainment recently revealed the modes for Alan Wake 2, which will offer players the choice between Quality mode running at 30fps with ray-traced reflections and a render resolution of 2176 x 1224 scaled up to 4K, and Performance mode running at 60fps with the image quality of the base PS5 mode scaled up to 4K and no ray tracing. The team at Remedy focused on signal quality and fast response rates to provide players with a sharper and better-quality image on the PS5 Pro.
Other games like Lies of P are also adopting a dual-mode approach for the PS5 Pro update. Their Quality mode will see a 30 percent boost to framerate, while the Performance mode will now support full native 4K resolution. The director of the game emphasized the importance of frame rate in action RPGs and how the PS5 Pro’s performance allows for a smooth and responsive gameplay experience at 4K resolution.
Numerous other games such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Diablo IV are also set to receive PS5 Pro enhancement updates. Early impressions from sources like Digital Foundry suggest that the technology behind the PS5 Pro enhancements is more impressive than initially thought. However, the true test will come when players get their hands on the console and experience the improvements first-hand with the games they love to play. The PS5 Pro is scheduled for release on November 7th.
