People often criticize the length of Call of Duty campaigns, even though many players never actually finish them and prefer multiplayer modes. However, the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to have a longer campaign than both Cold War and Modern Warfare III, which were known for their short campaigns.
Earlier this year, developers Treyarch mentioned that the Black Ops 6 campaign would be around six to eight hours long, similar to a classic Call of Duty experience. Co-developer Raven Software confirmed that it would be longer than Cold War’s five-hour campaign. Even if players attempt a speed run, the Black Ops 6 campaign is expected to surpass Cold War in length.
The average length of Call of Duty campaigns has historically been around six to seven hours. However, the Black Ops spin-offs have tended to offer longer campaigns. For example, Black Ops 3 took roughly nine hours to complete. On the other hand, Black Ops 4 did not have a traditional campaign, which disappointed some players.
With each new console generation, producing high-quality story content for annual Call of Duty releases has become increasingly challenging. Activision has been expanding its development teams to keep up with the demand for new games every year. In a departure from previous releases, Black Ops 6 will not have early access for its campaign. All players will have access to the story missions simultaneously when the game launches on October 25 at 12:01 a.m. ET.
Additionally, Microsoft recently ended the $1 trial for Game Pass Ultimate, but Black Ops 6 will be available on the platform. This move is part of the developers’ efforts to provide a more inclusive experience for players. With these changes and promises of a longer campaign, Call of Duty fans have high expectations for Black Ops 6’s story-based missions.
