Square Enix recently hosted a livestream for the upcoming game Life is Strange: Double Exposure, a sequel to the popular Life is Strange series. The 48-minute presentation provided fans with a deeper look at the game’s storyline and gameplay mechanics.
In Double Exposure, players will follow the journey of Max Caulfield, who has moved away from Arcadia Bay to start fresh at Caledon University in Vermont. Max, who has sworn off using her time-rewind abilities, discovers a new power called Shift that allows her to travel between two timelines. The game is described as a supernatural murder mystery, where Max must navigate between her present reality and an alternate timeline to solve and prevent a crime.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Double Exposure is how it addresses the multiple endings of the original Life is Strange game. Players will have the opportunity to choose the ending they prefer through a conversation between Max and Safi, which will determine the game’s canon. This choice will impact Max’s thoughts, journals, and interactions with other characters throughout the game.
In terms of gameplay, Max no longer possesses her time-rewind ability but can now swap between timelines instantly. This new power allows her to solve puzzles, access hidden areas, and gather information by eavesdropping on characters in the alternate reality. Additionally, players will witness Max navigating the social dynamics of college life as she mentors younger students and forms relationships with her peers.
An extended gameplay video showcased Max spending time with Safi and her friend Moses, adding depth to the characters and storyline. The game promises a mix of mystery, drama, and interpersonal relationships that will engage players as they uncover the truth behind Safi’s murder.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure is set to release on October 29 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Fans of the original series can look forward to reuniting with Max and immersing themselves in a new and captivating mystery.
