The heat wave and the lightning storms recorded on the night from Thursday to Friday have intensified the forest fires in Galicia, where the largest fires in around a dozen municipalities have already left this week, according to provisional estimates, more than 4,000 devastated hectares.
The most worrying situation continues to occur in Folgoso do Courel and A Pobra do Brollón, in the province of Lugo, where active alert is maintained due to proximity to inhabited areas. In Folgoso do Courel there are three fires that are still active around the 2,000 calcined hectares.
The Regional Minister for Rural Affairs, José González, in statements broadcast by Radio Galega, has stressed that “the greatest focus of concern” is in the Montaña de Lugo, although the media are acting and there have been no evictions -except for the preventive evacuation this Thursday of 40 young people from a camp in A Pobra do Brollón, who spent the night in the sports hall-.
Precisely in A Pobra do Brollón (Lugo) ‘situation 2’ continues to be decreed as a preventive measure in the fire registered in the parish of Saa, although Rural Environment reported last day that the danger to the Busto nucleus had subsided.
