The heat wave and the lightning storms recorded on the night from Thursday to Friday have intensified the forest fires in Galicia, where the largest fires in around a dozen municipalities have already left this week, according to provisional estimates, more than 4,000 devastated hectares.

The most worrying situation continues to occur in Folgoso do Courel and A Pobra do Brollón, in the province of Lugo, where active alert is maintained due to proximity to inhabited areas. In Folgoso do Courel there are three fires that are still active around the 2,000 calcined hectares.

The Regional Minister for Rural Affairs, José González, in statements broadcast by Radio Galega, has stressed that “the greatest focus of concern” is in the Montaña de Lugo, although the media are acting and there have been no evictions -except for the preventive evacuation this Thursday of 40 young people from a camp in A Pobra do Brollón, who spent the night in the sports hall-.

Precisely in A Pobra do Brollón (Lugo) ‘situation 2’ continues to be decreed as a preventive measure in the fire registered in the parish of Saa, although Rural Environment reported last day that the danger to the Busto nucleus had subsided.

This fire has been active since 8:37 p.m. this Thursday and affects a provisional area of ​​550 hectares. So far, 2 technicians, 13 agents, 22 brigades, 11 motorized pumps, 1 shovel, 2 helicopters and 4 planes have been mobilized for its control.

Also active since 9:14 p.m. on Thursday there is another fire in A Pobra do Brollón, in the same parish of saa, which according to the latest estimates is around 50 provisional hectares. 1 agent, 1 brigade, 1 motorized pump and 1 helicopter have worked on its control.

In Folgoso do Courel, the alert is still decreed due to the proximity to an inhabited area in the fire registered in the parish of Seceda, which began at 1:40 a.m. on Friday, and which, according to the latest provisional estimates, affects an area of ​​950 hectares –250 more than in the previous part of the Rural Environment–.

The fire is close to the nucleus of Gamiz, in the parish of Santalla, located in Samos, a neighboring municipality. A total of 9 agents, 15 brigades, 6 motorized pumps, 2 planes and 3 helicopters have worked on this fire. The Military Emergency Unit (UME) also participates, which has deployed troops in the area.

The alert is also decreed in a fire in the parish of Vilamor, also in Folgoso, where the flames are near the nucleus of Carballal. This fire started at 8:42 p.m. this Thursday and remains at 300 hectares burned, according to provisional estimates. Fighting the flames are 3 technicians, 12 agents, 20 brigades, 12 motorized pumps, 2 planes and 3 helicopters.

Another fire, the third in Folgoso, remains active in Vilamor. It began at 8:25 p.m. this Thursday and, according to the latest provisional estimates, the area affected is 500 hectares -250 more than in the previous report. So far, 15 agents, 16 brigades, 14 motorized pumps, 1 shovel, 1 technical support unit, 6 planes and 4 helicopters have worked on its control.

In total, these three fires add up to a provisional devastated area of ​​1,790 hectares.

Also in the province of Lugo, in Quiroga, a fire has been active since 8:29 p.m. this Thursday in the parish of Outeiro, which according to the latest estimates affects an area of ​​250 hectares. For its control, 2 technicians, 14 agents, 13 brigades, 11 motorized pumps, 1 shovel, 4 planes and 2 helicopters have been mobilized.

Active since 11:42 am this Friday, also in Quiroga, there is another fire, in the parish of Nocedo, which is around 180 hectares. It has been fought by 3 agents, 6 brigades, 3 motorized bombs and 3 helicopters.

And since 12:42 p.m. this Friday, the third Quiroga fire is still active, affecting 90 hectares. So far, 4 agents, 15 brigades, 7 motorized bombs, 2 planes and 1 helicopter have been mobilized for its control.

In the province of Ourense, a fire has been active since 6:57 a.m. this Friday in Vilariño de Conso, in the parish of Pradoalbar. It affects about 160 hectares in the Parque Natural do Invernadeiro -65 more than in the previous part of the Rural Area-. Until now, 1 technician, 5 agents, 19 brigades, 5 motorized pumps, 2 shovels, 2 airplanes and 6 helicopters have worked on its control.

And in Carballeda de Valdeorras the fire registered in the parish of Riodolas, which already affects 950 hectares -150 more than in the previous part of the Xunta– has been active since 22:09 this Thursday. Although the area burned is extensive, the scrubland burns and does not affect homes. In its control, 3 technicians, 14 agents, 31 brigades, 19 motorized pumps, 3 shovels, 2 planes and 6 helicopters have participated.

Rural Environment also reports that the fire in Rodeiro (Pontevedra), which began at 8:56 p.m. on Thursday in the parish of Guillar and has burned 200 hectares of land, has been under control since 2:42 a.m. last morning. Two technicians, 9 agents, 25 brigades, 16 motorized pumps, 3 shovels and 2 helicopters have worked on it.

A fire registered at 00:39 hours on Friday in Baiona (Pontevedra), which forced the evacuation of eight homes, has been extinguished at 00:53. Registered in the parish of Baredo, it has affected 46 wooded hectares.

Likewise, the fire in Cualedro (Ourense), the fire in the parish of A Xironda, which started at 7:03 p.m. on Thursday, was extinguished late this Friday. Finally, it affected 31 hectares of scrubland.

As for the fires registered in the first days of this heat wave, the media also advance in their extinction. Specifically, in past days, two fires had been activated in the parish of Quins, in Melón -where one was extinguished last Thursday- and Ribadavia, in Ourense, which burned a total of about 150 hectares.

The extinguished affected some 35 hectares, and the other fire in Melón, also in the parish of Quins, which remains controlled, about 50. Meanwhile, the provisional area burned in Ribadavia, which was recorded at 10:11 p.m. from last Monday and remains stabilized, it is 65 hectares.
