British police have terminated the “incident” that has led to the evacuation of London’s Trafalgar Square, near where celebrations will take place to mark Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Westminster police asked citizens through their Twitter account not to go to the scene: “Officers are currently in Trafalgar Square, where they have evacuated the place. Please do not go to the area.”
A few minutes later, also through the social network, he assured that “the police remain in place and that the incident has already concluded and the square will reopen in due time.”
A police spokesman earlier said that many checks were being carried out in the area, which is a short distance from where a concert outside Buckingham Palace is to take place later. He added that the incident was believed to be related to a suspicious package.
