Felipe VI, as Head of State, will be the first person to receive Joe Biden when he arrives in Spain. Thus, around half past three in the afternoon next Tuesday, June 28, the King will be at the Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base to greet the President of the United States when Air Force One lands.
This will be the Monarch’s first commitment during the days of the NATO summit, in which both Felipe VI and the Queen will have an agenda full of commitments, as the Royal House has made public. After welcoming Joe Biden, the King will attend an event organized by the Elcano Royal Institute in the Ifema Pavilion where the NATO summit is being held. The King will deliver a speech at the NATO PUBLIC FORUM on public diplomacy.
Later, already at the Royal Palace, Felipe VI will hold a one-hour meeting with Joe Biden, followed by another with Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO.
Two hours later, the King and Queen will receive the guests at the gala dinner in the throne room of the Royal Palace. After kissing hands, everyone will line up for a group photo in the hall of halberdiers and proceed to the gala dining room for dinner.
On Wednesday 29, Don Felipe will hold three meetings throughout the morning at the Palacio de la Zarzuela. First with Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. Next he will meet with Yook Suk Yeol, President of Korea. Finally, the King will meet with Sauli Niinistö, President of Finland, whose accession to NATO is expected to be resolved during the summit.
While these meetings take place, Doña Letizia will go with the leaders’ companions to different tourist spots. They will get to know the Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso and visit the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja. Before lunch they will go to the Reina Sofía Museum.
On Thursday, the King will receive Charles Michel, President of the European Council, in audience in the morning. In the afternoon, Rob Bauer, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. The Queen, for her part, will visit the Royal Theater with the companions of the leaders who come to the summit.
While Felipe VI will dedicate himself to the reception and meetings with Joe Biden, Doña Letizia will have her own agenda with the first lady of the United States, who will advance her arrival in Madrid one day. Thus, the Queen will hold a meeting with her at the Zarzuela Palace on Monday morning. They will then visit together the headquarters of the Spanish Association Against Cancer.
On Tuesday both ladies will again show their commitment to Ukraine with a visit to the Center for Attention, Reception and Referral of Ukrainian Refugees. It is the same center dependent on the Ministry of Inclusion that the Royal Family visited last Holy Saturday.
