A child has died after being rescued by Salvamento Marítimo after the boat in which he was traveling sank in the area of responsibility for maritime search and rescue (SAR zone), in the waters of the Region of Murcia.
Specifically, the minor has died in the helicopter due to hypothermia, according to sources from the Government Delegation in the Region in a statement.
The events occurred this Wednesday morning, when a merchant ship located an immigrant who was at sea, and who reported that he was traveling on a boat with 17 other people. From that moment, Salvamento Marítimo has begun the search for the rest of the occupants.
In addition to the person who has been rescued by the merchant and the deceased child, so far seven people have been rescued who are in the helicopter, coming from Almería, and four more who are in the Salvamar Draco. In total there are 12 people rescued alive (one is on the ship, seven on the helicopter and four on the Salvamar Draco).
They are currently locating a fifth person, and looking for another three. The Maritime Rescue personnel of the Region of Murcia, Valencia and Almería, and the Civil Guard remain in place.
