PP, Vox and Ciudadanos have criticized the Government for having forced the departure of the until now president of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Juan Rodríguez Poo, because “he does not like the data” that he presented on GDP growth or inflation and they have accused Nadia Calviño of wanting to place another “Tezanos” to adapt those figures to their interests.
Besieged by these reproaches, and although at first she wanted to avoid this matter, the First Vice President and Minister of Economy has ended up replying that “so that there is no doubt”, she “has not pressured or dismissed any leader of any independent institution “.
In a control session decaffeinated by the absence of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and many of his ministers due to the NATO summit in Madrid and other commitments, the political weight of the session has fallen on Calviño, who has seen as in At the same time, the escalation of the inflation figure to 10.2% year-on-year was announced.
Although the criticism of the opposition went there first, PP, Vox and Ciudadanos have brought up the controversial resignation of the president of the INE due to alleged pressure from the Government. The popular deputy Jaime de Olano has accused Calviño of having “forced” his departure in an effort to control the institutions and has accused him of wanting “an INE a la carte like with Tezanos” in the CIS.
With that same simile, the Vox spokesman, Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, has also fired. “They will end up placing any other Tezanos from his party”, he has said, after “ceasing the one who presents the data” because these, he has emphasized, “he does not like”.
For his part, the spokesman for Ciudadanos, Edmundo Bal, has vehemently criticized the Government and in particular Calviño for this latest episode. “You are part of the assault battalion of the State institutions”, he has reproached him, pointing out that it is causing an “erosion” which is in turn that of the “own credibility” of the Executive.
Bal, as PP and Vox did before, citing some accounts of them, has reviewed the “complete list of grievances” to the institutions by the Government of Sánchez: INE, Indra, CNMV, CSIC, CNI, Ombudsman, Court of Auditors , RTVE, Constitutional Court, Data Protection Agency, “the attacks on the governor of the Bank of Spain”, “the demerit of the prestige of the Prosecutor’s Office”, the CIS…
“According to Sánchez, this is due to media terminals and political pressure. You are turning Spain into a political terminal for the PSOE,” the orange deputy stressed.
