The Executive is going through one of the most delicate moments of the legislature. The energy crisis and the rise in prices – inflation in June shot up to 10.2% – conditions and overshadows the Government’s action. This circumstance and the blow suffered by the left in the Andalusian elections has led Pedro Sánchez to try to print a turn to the left, champion a social discourse and recover his 2016 message of positioning himself as an object of attack by what is called system or establishment.
In this speech, the head of the Executive accuses the PP of not being an autonomous party, but a “terminal of dark and hidden interests”. At the same time, Sánchez hopes to have the support of the formation led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo to be able to validate the defense agreement sealed with Biden in Congress, since the pact generates the rejection of leftist formations.
“This government is uncomfortable for certain hidden powers that do not stand for election.” Sánchez affects the message that he already conveyed when he appeared in La Moncloa to capitalize on the new anti-crisis plan. A message that in addition to recovering the Pedro Sánchez of 2016, when he was removed from the leadership of the PSOE, is in tune with the one that Pablo Iglesias maintained. “For four years we changed the pace of the economic, political and media right with the motion of censure.”
The president considers that PP and Vox “are not autonomous”. His analysis is: the PP opposes the measures promoted by the Government “in an autonomous way” because “it does not represent the interests of a majority but of a very particular minority.” He accuses the popular of a “lack of autonomy of the right as a political project of the corporate interests of a minority”, he reflected in an interview in Ser. An accusation that, however, does not prevent him from trusting the PP to push forward in Congress the new defense collaboration agreement with the US to house six destroyers in Rota and not four as at present.
The defense collaboration agreement, sealed this Tuesday in La Moncloa between Pedro Sánchez and Joe Biden, is expected to not have the support of its governance partners, including United We Can, despite the fact that the purples have not yet officially pronounced . In this sense, the general secretary and spokesperson for the PP in Congress, Cuca Gamarra, has anticipated in an interview at Cope that her party will vote in favor of increasing the US military presence at the Rota naval base. “Above the party, there is Spain; therefore, the PP will not fail the Spaniards and, in these issues that have to do with our situation in the framework of defense and security, we will rise to the occasion”, informs Servimedia.
This support from the PP gives Sánchez a comfortable majority to carry out the pact with the US without the need to depend on his governance partners.
Regarding the rejection that the measure may generate among the left-wing formations in Congress -ERC has already anticipated its refusal, for example-, the President of the Government has summoned them to reflect: “I would like that after what has happened in Ukraine reflect on the need to increase deterrence capacity”. The parties to the left of the PSOE “have to make that reflection. We must guarantee our security and defense today threatened.”
