Sonic X Shadow Generations recently made its debut on the Nintendo Switch, and the team at Digital Foundry has conducted a technical analysis of the game.
In the original release of Sonic Generations on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the game ran at 880 x 720p at 30 frames per second. However, on the Switch, the game now runs at 1080p but with a peculiar “super-weird 31.5fps”. Digital Foundry noted that there is a consistent stutter in this version of the game.
On the other hand, Shadow Generations also runs at 30fps on the Switch but doesn’t experience the 31.5fps issue seen in Sonic Generations. Despite having good image quality, Shadow Generations does have some “unstable frame fracing”. Additionally, load times on the Switch version can be notably longer.
Despite these technical challenges, Digital Foundry expressed satisfaction with the game and commended Team Sonic for their efforts, mentioning that they have “largely done a great job”.
In our own experience with Sonic X Shadow Generations on the Switch, we found the performance to be consistently solid with minimal fluctuations. The visuals on the Switch version were also impressive, described as a “treat”.
As we continue to explore Sonic X Shadow Generations on the Switch, we would love to hear your thoughts on the game. Feel free to share your experiences in the comments section.
