Neither Pedro Sánchez nor any of his ministers will attend the International Congress of Victims of Terrorism held in Spain.
Next June 14 and 15, at the Teatro del Canal in Madrid, a new international meeting of victims will be held, the first organized by the Community of Madrid with the Ceu. The previous seven were organized by the Ceu San Pablo University.
According to sources from the organization, the Government has declined its participation and has sent the organizers to contact the directorate of victims of terrorism, of the Ministry of the Interior; that is, at a third administrative level.
The presence of the Royal Family, which always accompanies the victims in all the acts to which their agenda has allowed them to attend, was a constant. The absence of the Government slows down its presence. The Kings must always go accompanied by a minister. In the organization, the absence of the Government in general and the head of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, in particular, has surprised. The official reason for Zarzuela is that the Kings have “schedule problems”.
Some sources interpret that the fact that it is the Community of Madrid that is carrying out the organization of the event has stopped both the participation of Moncloa and Zarzuela.
It has been the right hand of Isabel Díaz Ayuso in the Interior, the Minister Enrique López, who has been in charge of organizing this meeting with the Ceu in which four round tables will be held moderated by journalists from 13TV, El País, ABC, El Debate and Telemadrid. Another TVE journalist will be the one who pilots all the days.
Politicians and specialists in security and the Interior will participate in the first table. Among others will be the former Minister of the Interior and Justice with the PSOE Government, Juan Alberto Belloch; the former Secretary of State for Security with the PP, Ignacio Astarloa, and the head of the United Nations anti-terrorism office in Madrid, Ignacio Ibáñez.
The organizers will hold a second table in which victims of ETA and 11-M terrorism will speak. Among them, the son of Alberto and Ascen Jiménez Becerril.
Another of the tables will be made up of representatives of the State security forces and bodies that have stood out in the fight against ETA terrorism. Among others will be the Colonel of the Civil Guard Diego Pérez de los Cobos, dismissed immediately by Grande-Marlaska for refusing to provide him with information from a judicial summary. Pérez de los Cobos, whom the minister has vetoed in his promotion to general, was one of the important pieces of the Civil Guard in the fight against ETA. Another of the attendees will be the former Information Commissioner General of the National Police, Germán Castiñeira.
In addition, a fourth table is planned in which foreign victims of other terrorist plots such as the IRA or the FARC will discuss terrorism.
The conference will be opened by Enrique López, Minister of the Interior of the Government of Madrid. The closure will be carried out by the regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
