Criminal lawyer Juan Betancor, 72, died this Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained after being attacked last Sunday by a man who lived on his farm, in Santa Brígida (Gran Canaria), and who allegedly set him on fire and He locked him in a cistern, local police sources have reported.

The sources have indicated that the lawyer was first transferred to the Hospital de Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín, in the capital of Gran Canaria, and later to a center on the peninsula, due to the severity of the burns suffered.

The alleged aggressor, arrested last Sunday in Santa Brígida by members of the Local Police, will go to court this Wednesday, as reported by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands.

The detainee, also 72 years old and a native of Cape Verde, whom Betancor picked up at his Gamonal farm about ten years ago, acknowledged the facts after his arrest on Sunday, although he did not want to give details of what happened, the sources have indicated. of the Local Police.

The sources have detailed that the alleged aggressor had argued with the lawyer days ago and that it was the Civil Guard that alerted the Local Police officers to proceed with his arrest, which occurred about 500 meters from the lawyer’s home.

Likewise, they have specified that the entrance to the cistern where Juan Betancor was located had supposedly been blocked by the alleged aggressor, who was in charge of maintaining the farm.
