We recently got some new details from the Pokémon data breach that occurred earlier this month. Among the leaked information was a design document revealing a planned flying-type evolution for Eevee in the seventh generation games, Pokémon Sun and Moon. However, the idea was ultimately scrapped because the design was too similar to fan-made mock-ups. Unfortunately, no images of this flying fox evolution have been released as of yet.
The fact that fan artists already had their own interpretations of this hypothetical Eeveelution ready to go suggests that Game Freak’s ideas may have been influenced by fan creations. Eevee is a beloved Pokémon in the franchise, known for its ability to evolve into different forms based on various elemental affinities. Fans have been creating their own versions of potential Eevee evolutions for years, including ones with flying types.
Eevee has gained immense popularity over the years and has even become a secondary mascot for the series, standing alongside Pikachu. The last new evolution for Eevee was Sylveon, introduced in 2013 to showcase the new fairy typing in Pokémon X and Y. The debate continues among fans regarding whether Eevee needs more evolutions, with some satisfied with its current eight forms and others eager to see Eevee represented in all 18 elemental types.
While Game Freak has not ruled out the possibility of creating more Eevee evolutions, they are striving to come up with a design that feels unique and original. Given the extensive history of fan-made Pokémon designs, this poses a significant challenge. Despite the difficulties, fans remain excited about the potential for new Eevee evolutions in the future.
