A 16-year-old boy died from injuries sustained after being attacked by a bull during a bull run organized in the town of Moita (40 kilometers from Lisbon) as part of the municipal festivities called this weekend.
After the attack, the young man was transferred in critical condition to a hospital, where he died from the severity of his injuries, according to Portuguese media.
The Coordinating Council of the festivities lamented the death of the young man and recalled that there are security measures for these acts.
“There is information throughout the party that points to the precautions that must be maintained during the running of the bulls, such as not getting too close to the bulls, but it never hurts to reinforce these precautions,” a Council spokesman told the Jornal de Notícias newspaper.
Before the event, the Portuguese animalist party PAN also regretted what happened and asked to eliminate this kind of events.
“Bullfights are not typical of a civilized society and of the humanitarian values of the 21st century. Let this anachronistic form of entertainment that only translates into suffering come to an end,” defended the party’s spokesperson, Inês de Sousa Real, last night in your Twitter profile.
