Indie RPG Dread Delusion recently released its 1.0 version in May after being in early access for two years. However, developer Lovely Hellplace surprised players with a final content update that focuses on the endgame of the surreal adventure. The highlight of this update is a new floating island in the sky archipelago of Dread Delusion, which is actually the corpse of a giant squid. Players can only reach this island using an airship, a vehicle unlocked in the later stages of the main quest.

The update introduces the Cephalok, the ancient squid’s innards filled with rare materials. According to the official synopsis from DreadXP, there are legends of Wikkans who built a castle inside the squid’s shell. This new dungeon seems like a perfect challenge for late-game players exploring the cosmic horrors of the Oneiric Isles, such as a god of abundance spreading disease and a society of zombies surviving on ethically-sourced human meat substitute to keep peace with the living.

Aside from the Cephalok and high-level loot, the update also includes a hard mode for seasoned players seeking a greater challenge. In this mode, enemies will be tougher and deal more damage, resources will be scarce, and attacks and spells will consume more mana and stamina. While combat has been a weak point for some players, the game’s strengths lie in its atmosphere and exploration.

The new update is already available, and Dread Delusion is currently on sale for 20% off on Steam for a week, bringing the price down to $16 from $20. Players can check out the full patch notes of The Final Update in the accompanying Steam news post. Make sure to stay updated on the latest news and deals selected by the PC Gamer team.
