Víctor Salvador, known in the gastronomic world as ‘chez Víctor, has died in Salamanca at the age of 75. Salvador achieved Castilla y León’s first Michelin star in 1983, which he held for 23 years

‘Chez Víctor’, born in Salamanca in 1947, and died on Thursday night, retired from the kitchen in June 2010 after 33 years at the helm of one of the most prestigious restaurants in Spain. In recent years he had dedicated himself to giving some cooking courses, without any professional aspirations.

The restaurateur went to Paris at the age of 17 where he learned Parisian cuisine, first as a kitchen assistant and later as head chef in different restaurants.

At the age of 30, Víctor Salvador returned to his native Salamanca to open a new model of restaurant in the capital of Salamanca, ‘chez Víctor’, on Espoz y Mina street, next to the Plaza Mayor, which managed to impose its stamp of cuisine French in a land of purely Castilian cuisine.

In 1983 it won the first Michelin star for a restaurant in Castilla y León, an award it held for 23 years.

‘Chez Víctor’ closed its doors in 2010 and last Thursday its creator, an innovator in the kitchen such as Víctor Salvador, died at his home, a victim of cancer.
