In the world of gaming, old favorites are making a comeback, and Croc is the latest classic to get a remaster. Croc: The Legend of Gobbos is being brought back to life by its original developer, Argonaut Games, known for their work on Star Fox and the Super FX chip.

Although the remaster was announced a while back, it has now been confirmed for all platforms, including the popular Nintendo Switch. While there is no official release date yet, the announcement trailer hints at a possible release in the near future, possibly in 2024.

The remastered version of Croc will feature updated HD visuals and modern controls. For those who prefer the classic tank controls, they will have the option to enable them. Additionally, a new feature called Crocipedia will be included, acting as a digital museum showcasing the game’s development process, including lost assets, design documents, animations, beta music tracks, and interviews.

Jez San, the founder of Argonaut Games, expressed his excitement about the remaster, stating that the goal is to reignite the imaginations of players and reach a wide audience with the updated version of the game. Croc originally debuted on the PlayStation in 1997, with subsequent ports to the Sega Saturn and PC. It was a commercial success, selling over 3 million copies and spawning sequels and Game Boy Color versions.

The game was heavily influenced by Nintendo, particularly Yoshi, due to Argonaut Games’ close relationship with the company in the past. Time Extension had the opportunity to interview Nic Cusworth, the lead designer on the PS1 version of Croc, providing valuable insights into the development of the game.

For fans of the original Croc game, this remaster is a chance to relive the nostalgia of the PlayStation era. Are you looking forward to playing Croc on the Switch or another platform? Share your thoughts in the comments below and join the discussion on the return of this beloved platformer.
