Toronto police have shot and wounded a suspect who was walking with a weapon and five schools near the individual’s path have been placed under lockdown, police said. A news that arrives in the same week that there has been a massacre in the US town of Uvalde (Texas).

Doctors moved to the scene of the incident and there is no threat to public safety, as the city police reported on Twitter. The suspect, whose condition has not been clarified, was described as a teenage male, in his 20s.

The incident took place in Port Union, a residential area north of downtown Toronto. Three schools remain closed, while two others have been declared “safe” due to police work in the area, the Toronto District School Board said.
