Six people were murdered this Monday in the municipality of Salamanca, located in the Mexican state of Guanajuato, in the center of the country, local authorities reported.

With this, he closed the violent day that began with the murder of the son of the mayor of Villagrán, a neighboring municipality of Salamanca.

The multiple homicide was recorded in the community of Barrón, located 19 kilometers from the municipal seat, where six people were killed, four men and two women, in the vicinity of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz primary school.

According to preliminary versions, the victims were at a neighborhood meeting when the attack occurred.

Hours earlier, in Villagrán, Florencio Lara González, son of the mayor of that municipality, Juan Lara Mendoza, was killed while driving a car.

Also in the vehicle was his wife, Mildred Elizabeth Alvarado, who died moments later at the hospital.

“It is an unfortunate fact. We must ask the Prosecutor’s Office to clarify this situation and arrest the guilty parties,” said the governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, in an interview with the media.

Just two weeks ago, in the municipality of Celaya -located an hour from Salamanca- another massacre occurred in a bar that left 11 people dead.

According to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, from January to April of this year in Guanajuato, 993 people were murdered in the entity, of which 227 died in April.

With this, it is the second state with the most cases in Mexico during the first four months of 2022, only below its neighboring state, Michoacán.
