The data that month by month presents the statistics of the employment offices continue to improve without taking into account the context of slowdown in economic growth and recovery that other indicators such as GDP present. Last June was a month in which registered unemployment fell by 42,409 people registered in the offices, which brings the total number to 2,880,582 unemployed, a number that had not been registered since 2008, the year before the great crisis that sent the Spanish labor market to disaster.
Today, in June 2022, there are 20.3 million workers registered with Social Security, a figure that is 115,607 higher than that registered a month ago but is half of what the system signed up for a year ago. In “original terms”, as the ministry led by José Luis Escrivá calls it, it is the largest increase in the series in a month of June, with the exception of 2005 and 2021, conditioned by the regularization of migrants and by the lifting of the alarm status, respectively. If the Social Security numbers are measured in seasonally adjusted terms, the increase in employment would be 76,948 people in the last month, “which is the best monthly data compared to the pre-pandemic period,” according to Social Security.
Interestingly, if the data is measured in a seasonally adjusted way – as the Ministry of Social Security emphasizes that it should be read – unemployment in the employment offices in June would increase by more than 3,000 people. The Ministry of Labor points to a strong push in the services sector and in particular tourism to explain the improvement registered. By economic sectors with respect to the previous month, unemployment decreased in Industry by 2.95%; in Construction, -2.15%) and in Services, 1.99%. It only rose in Agriculture, by 6.42% and in the group Without Previous Employment, which increased by 0.76%.
Due to the fact that the new regulatory framework established by the labor reform indicates the indefinite contract as the priority over the temporary one, the relationship between the two tends to equalize, with 783,595 employment contracts of an indefinite nature that represent 44.30% of all contracts. .
Compared to June 2021, permanent full-time contracts have increased by 210,229 (204.91%), permanent part-time contracts have increased by 135,282 (316.01%) and permanent discontinuous contracts have increased by 265,217 (965.76%). ), that is, 10 times more than a year ago when the labor reform was not in force. These latest contracts are the regulatory piece that replaces the old temporary contracts, allowing the employer to suspend the relationship with the employee until further notice without firing him. During the period of suspension, workers are not included in the list of unemployed.
The activity of the labor market has led to registered unemployment in the sixth month of 2022 falling in almost all the Autonomous Communities, with the exception of Andalusia. The most pronounced decreases occurred in: Catalonia (-9,946) and the Community of Madrid (-7,443) with Barcelona and Madrid as the main driving forces.
