The game has been in early access for over two decades.

Following two decades in early accessibility, Subnautica: Below Zero is getting a full release on Steam and Epic Games on May 14.

The new game takes place a complete year after the original game’s events, construction on its story.

“Subnautica: Below Zero has evolved and grown according to community comments from Early Accessibility and we are excited to finally start the full-blown sequel to Subnautica,” says Ted Gill, President of Unknown Worlds. “Following two decades of executing player feedback and adding new features and content, we are excited to welcome gamers back to the depths of Planet 4546B to discover an all new adventure on PC and games console.”

The early access build has been received fairly well by players over the last couple years, now holding a’Very Positive’ rating on Steam. Phillipa gave Below Zero a go back when it first launched in early access, and stated that while it was “a little rough around the edges,” it was nevertheless a very enjoyable Subnautica experience.
