Believe it or not, today marks five years since Fire Emblem: Three Houses launched on Switch. Most SRPG fans have likely played both Three Houses and its successor, Fire Emblem Engage, which is now over a year old. The two games have significant differences that make them unique in their own way.

Three Houses took a bold new direction by incorporating social sim elements along with tactical battles. It was the first home console release for the franchise in over a decade. The game was filled with drama, romance, and slice-of-life activities, making it a different experience from previous Fire Emblem games. On the other hand, Engage focuses more on combat, bringing back the Weapon Triangle and putting less emphasis on interpersonal dialogue.

Both games received a 9/10 rating in Nintendo Life reviews, highlighting their individual strengths. It’s challenging to determine which game is better since they offer distinct experiences. The question is, which one do you prefer? Did you enjoy the narrative depth of Three Houses or the intense battles in Engage?
