“All we need is for them to give us sandwiches.” This is how the officials of the Diputación de Badajoz have reacted to the invitation that the institution has extended to them through a massive sending of emails to urge them to be present at the I National Congress on Communication on Gender Violence and Equality, which It will be held on a working day (June 1 and 2) in Villanueva de la Serena, a town more than 120 kilometers from the headquarters of said organization in Badajoz.

To do this, the Provincial Council indicates that it will give them a place on the bus, which will be chartered by the body, as stated in the text of the letter, which highlights that the former Vice President of the Government and current deputy will participate as the first speaker in said event PSOE national, Carmen Calvo, the only name mentioned in the invitation. It so happens that the post of president of the Diputación de Badajoz and that of mayor of Villanueva de la Serena falls to the same person, Miguel Ángel Gallardo (PSOE).

The email was sent on May 16 to the majority of public workers by the coordinator of Municipal Cooperation and it refers to the fact that the invitation had been proposed from the “Presidency”: “As I am sure you know, Villanueva de la Serena will host the days On June 1 and 2, the Congress on Communication on Gender Violence and Equality organized by the Badajoz Provincial Council and which will be opened by Carmen Calvo, former Vice President of the Government and former Minister of the Presidency. The event will take place at the Palacio de Congresos in Villanova, and the Badajoz Provincial Council will charter a bus so that a group of provincial employees can attend the Congress. It is for these purposes that we need each area to provide us with a list of two or three employees who are interested in attending in person. For the rest who are interested, the congress will be broadcast in straiming (sic)».

But the invitation by e-mail has not been the only one. This past Wednesday, as this newspaper has been able to learn, several managers from different areas of the Badajoz Provincial Council toured the work units of public employees to sound out in person who was willing to attend the congress and thus draw up the travel list.

«Then they always give us trouble to be able to leave work for having to take, for example, the child to the doctor and they take away part of the salary of the hours that we have been absent if you do not present all kinds of supporting documents and signatures, which seems good to us , although some are asked and others are not… But to spend two days without showing up for work to go and become clappers for Mrs. Calvo, there is no problem for that, on the contrary, it is encouraged, “he highlights one of the most veteran officials of this institution.

Thus, he assures that the Diputación de Badajoz has never made a bus available to the workers to attend a similar event: «It is the first time that it has been done, perhaps because they see that few people are going to go and they want to fill the auditorium, and they have decided to pull officials for it, “he reasons.

To questions from this newspaper, the Badajoz Provincial Council has indicated that “not all public employees have received that email.” In addition, he adds that the congress is organized by the Provincial Council “and as a sponsor entity it is interested in its workers being able to opt for the training aspect that this congress will have.”
